Photofit

Giles Revell is a London based photographer, with a very clear graphic style.

The following set of images is from the ongoing project Photofit, he describes the project as: "In providing each sitter with the same tools – a 1970s police Photofit kit, the process by which they created their self-portrait was democratized; the immediate, tactile qualities of the kit enabling them to tell their own story as a likeness falls into place, piece by piece. An ongoing collaboration with Matt Willey of Studio8 Design, Photofit has been widely published."

Coke Wisdom O'Neal

37 year old Coke Wisdom O'Neal was born in Manhattan's upper west side, where he still lives today. A photographer and budding sculptor he combined his two passions in his long term project "The Box"
Orginally installed in Manhattan before moving to Queens & Texas, Coke shot a series or protraits within a 22 foot tall wooden box. The original sitters were friends and family as well as a few eager strangers invited via craigslist. Moving his box to the border town of San Isidro TX, O'Neal turned his attention to the community at large, shooting most of the towns residents before he was done. It was here that the box project began to come into its own, exposing the absurdity of the categorical boxes that we use to identify and place one another in society.

A former leper colony turned bird sanctuary the only people remaining is a residential school for 15-18 year olds boys who have been in trouble with the law, and for many is a last chance before jail. Enrollment at the school is limited to nine boys at a time and with no electricity the boys must chop wood and study by kerosene lanterns, it is hoped that the chores given will introduce the discipline and structure that's lacking at home.
