Indre Serptyte

Indre Serptyte
is a young Lithuanian photographer, she studied in the UK at Brighton before completing a masters last year at the Royal College of Art in London, and she has been shortlisted and won various awards including the Terry O'Neil Award, the Jerwood Award and the Fujifilm Awards.
Her work is influenced by her Lithuanian heritage, and a deeply personal connection to her subjects and none more so than the beautiful "A State of Silence" series, she describes this series as:

"The Lithuanian papers wrote that it was a “Painful misfortune (a catastrophe)”, when the Head of Government Security died.
Albinas Serpytis died in the early hours of the 13th of October 2001, in a “car accident”.
No one seemed to know the details, or circumstances, or provide straightforward answers. His death was premeditated and brutal.
All that remains is silence, unknown circumstances. Hidden motivations. A chilling absence.
This was my father. The subject of my indefatigable investigations"

for more info on this incredible young artist see her website here

and a big thanks to Nana Kate for pointing me in this direction.

Katrien Franken

Katrien Franken is a Dutch photographer based in Amsterdam, like a lot of other photographers her work popped up in my inbox, however unlike some she is truly, truly special.
I love all the various facets of her work, she covers portrait, still life and architecture, all with the same melancholy and grace.
Check out her personal website as she has some truely stunning work, her projects UVA (12 months of "portraits" taken from the same position of the facade of the University of Amsterdam and Krijin De Koning an exploration of an interior space designed by Dutch architect Krijin De Koning.
Below is images from her PANL 2010 nominated series "I Am Near"
